The "I Deserve It" Life Lesson =)

"I deserve it" is a statement we don't hear much. It is more of an 'attitude' we all have come across on a pretty frequent basis in the competitive world. I just want to touch base about this 'attitude'.
Life is full of circumstances. Whether they play out in your favor or not.. it's just the way it is. Someone always has to draw the short straw. There can only be one winner at each event. And no matter who you are or what you do, there is ALWAYS someone out there better, smarter, faster, leaner...than you! That's just the way it is. And everyone has something to overcome, whether it be visible or something in their private life. I think this picture speaks for itself...

I've talked to and seen a few competitors over this past year who never said it, but who definitely have the 'attitude' of "I deserve it". They have very openly displayed the feelings and thoughts that since they trained and dieted for the show.. that they DESERVE to win. That they overcame SO much and worked SO hard that there's no way anyone else could have possibly worked that hard and they "DESERVE" that 1st place even though they didn't get it.
The thing is, every single person who steps on stage... who trains for a marathon... who takes that step to complete a huge task... all work hard and prepare! We never know what their history is, where they came from, what their life situation is, or what they personally had to overcome... whether it be emotional, physical, financial or something else.
The Lesson: Let's be supportive of our fellow athletes and friends! We all work very hard to do what we do and all deserve a pat on the back! We need to stick together to support each other in a sport that so few understand!
We also need to focus on improving ourselves from year to year. We will never be perfect. No one is or ever will be. The goal shouldn't be to be "good enough to win"..Our goal each time we step foot on stage should be to let someone in the audience, or a judge, or our fellow competitors see that we've worked hard and are ready to have the time of our life rockin' that stage!! Enjoy the process and discipline it takes and be proud of all you've accomplished! Be proud of your placing... whether it be first or last! Even in last place, you are STILL among amazing company and STILL doing something that VERY FEW people can do!
So Enjoy 2010.. what's left of it.. and make it a priority to have a positive attitude to simply be YOUR best possible in 2011!

Just My Luck

Good Morning! My stretch of a million days of work is over and I have 5 days off.. then back to work for Christmas. My last day this work stretch was horrible.. lots of drama in the hospital.. the snow was POURING down and no one would treat them because it was coming down so fast, so I drove my husbands car to work (as mine is RWD). There are wrecks everywhere on the way, only for it to continue snowing the entire day.

On my way home, I am on the interstate being very careful and hit a slush blob of snow.. and here a pop. The car starts pulling to the right.. I'm like GREAT! I drive another 2 miles until the next exit, get off at the gas station and guess what!? A FLAT! Called my dad so he could pick up Andrew and they could come help (again.. I left my car with Andrew which barely drives in the rain LOL)

It's always fun changing tires is snow slush at a gas station when it's freezing out, right!? Not really.. but after I went numb I started laughing real hard just at my luck! Andrew warned me, once you become a "Wright"... everything goes wrong! HAHA
So anyway- Andrew has speakers in the back of his car.. We basically had to rip them out to get the spare tire out. Then put the doughnut on the rear tire.. and took the rear tire and put it on the front to replace the flat so it wouldn't be so hard driving in all that snow. It was a very interesting day.. and to say the least.. was one of those days I'm REALLY glad I had my camera. Otherwise no one would ever believe the fun... (or whatever you call it)

Always Remember...

Always remember that no matter what journey you're on in life, to keep your eye on the final results. Along the way there are always struggles, questions, bumps in the road, and challenges to make you doubt yourself or question if it's all worth it. These are all the things that define us and show us our true strengths and allow us to learn so much more about ourselves. If it is something you had a passion for in the beginning, don't ever allow yourself to lose that. Know that the harder you work and the more you struggle along the way, the better the payoff. I've always loved this quote... "The road to success is not straight. There is a curve called failure, a loop called confusion, speed bumps called friends, red lights called enemies, caution lights called family. You will have flats called jobs. But if you have a spare called determination, an engine called perseverance, insurance called faith, a driver called JESUS, you will make it to a place called Success!" The above photo is of a fellow RN and competitor friend of mine, Sandra Fields. She is an amazing individual and I am blessed to be able to call her my friend. This picture is something that should remind us all.. that no matter what our journey is... never giving up = success!

Back to the Drawing Board

Since you all are all so great and wonderful supporters, I feel it is necessary to keep you informed. I received word today from Linda Wood-Hoyte and the President of the NPC that Team USA will NOT be attending the Women's World Championships competition this year. It is greatly disappointing as I was looking forward to an experience of a lifetime, but completely understand they have our best interest at heart. Here's is the letter from the President. At this point, I will go back to the drawing board in anticipation of my IFBB Pro Fitness Debut.

RE: 2010 Women's World Championships

After discussing withseveral political officials and reading the enclosed information posted on theU.S. State Departments website, the NPC has decided that we will not be sendinga Team to compete in the Women's World Championships in Tlalnepantla, Mexico.

We realize that this isa disappointment however we feel it is unsafe for American citizens to travelto this region of the world at this time and will not jeopardize your safety.

Sincerely,

Be Prepared

I've found myself having a hard time with the competition diet lately. I've come to realize I was letting myself go too long in between meals, allowing myself to get hungry, and then my mind goes wild with crazy things I want to eat. The thing is, I need to be better prepared. I can't let myself get to the hungry point... not only because of the cravings, but if I get hungry- that means my body might be using my muscles for food! I don't want to breakdown ANY muscle! So I'm making the necessary changes to make sure this doesn't happen. This picture is just an example of how, as competitors (and also those attempting to live a healthy lifestyle) need to be prepared and plan ahead. That means, packing home cooked meals and carrying a lunch box, so if I get stuck out somewhere... I have HEALTHY food ready to eat! Just a side note, it's always much quicker to go ahead and fix extra food when you cook. Store what you don't need in tupperware in the fridge for later use. That way, you can throw it in a lunch box, or grab it out of the fridge, throw it in the microwave and eat up as needed... rather than taking a half hour to try to fix something while munching away on foods probably not needed.

Be PROductive... Not DEstructive!

So even as a fitness competitor, things don't always go as planned. While I'm a VERY positive person and try to find the best in every situation, I still have my "down" days where things go wrong. I had one of those days today. By this evening, I began craving tacos! They are my stress food and emotional relief! Before I got in the car and drove to taco bell, I reminded myself of what all I put into being a fitness competitor and what my goals are for this year! I went in our little home gym and did an extra session of cardio and worked out on our ab bench. I finished up my mini workout session with some progress pictures so I could see what I needed to improve on in the next 5 and half weeks before Chicago! As hard as it was, I passed up on the tacos and made my evening PROductive, rather than DEstructive!
The next time you're at a fork in the road... remember your goals! Don't think emotionally and react. Sit down and weigh out your options and make the most PRODUCTIVE decision that will help you toward your goals! Not harm your goals! Enjoy the progress pics I took!
God Bless,
Stacy

NPC Pittsburgh Fitness CHAMPION!

That's right! I was able to pull off the win at the NPC Pittsburgh Championships! It was a WONDERFUL weekend away with my husband! This show was amazing! The prejudging did seem to last a long time, but since fitness physique round was last, I was able to sit out in the audience and enjoy the majority of the show! The routines opened up the night show and we had already received our awards before the guest posers took the stage! I loved the guest posing and how they involved the audience and actually went out through the crowd! It was awesome! My husband and I slept in the next morning, had breakfast at the hotel, then hit the road for a great drive home! Next stop: Jr Nationals. June 18th-19th in Chicago, Illinois!

Excuses OR Action??

MAKE EXCUSES OR TAKE ACTION!? You decide!!

Whether you're making excuses as to why you haven't started a training program, why you haven't started a new nutritional regimen, why you haven't stepped on stage yet, why you haven't crossed over in divisions, or why you didn't place as high as you would have liked at your show.... STOP! Excuses get us NOWHERE! Every single one of us out there have excuses we could use as to why we haven't "Got the Job Done". We all have jobs/school, families, illnesses, car trouble, housework... the list goes on and on...but guess what- it's those who choose to take action rather than make excuses who see the results they desire! It's time we step it up, take things like big boys and girls and if we have a goal.. a TRUE DESIRE to better ourselves - we need to put down the book of excuses and take action putting in that hard work to achieve those dreams and goals!! Learn from our experiences and keep pushing forward! Each day holds a purpose and gives us the opportunity to learn and grow! Take each learning experience for what it's worth and work to make progress each and every day!

NPC Pittsburgh

I've decided to add a show to my 2010 Schedule! It's a local NPC show! I'll be competing in Fitness at the Pittsburgh show May 1st! This is the same NPC show I did back in 2007! My 2nd show in the NPC! Gonna go back to my roots on this one! =) It was a great show that I learned so much from... I remember like it was yesterday.. stepping on that stage. Once the show was over, I told my husband I will NOT step back on stage until I compete at the same level of conditioning and with muscle like these ladies had! I took that next year and made some of the best gains of my career!!! I'm pleased to say this will be my warm up before Jr Nationals in June - Plus hopefully everyone who attends will enjoy my routine and be entertained with what I will bring to the table! Here's a pic from the last time I did this show! Other than that, the Arnold is coming up! I've started packing and VERY excited to be representing Egg Whites International!! Again, be sure to stop by and say Hello!! See you there! God Bless, Stacy

Day One

So I'm not going to be posting every day, would just be too much to keep up with. BUT I will say that this is a very important Day One.. and it definitely deserves a blog! =) This is my 1st day of 100% dieting and training toward a VERY productive growth phase in my training. I started to refer to it as an off-season, but I refuse to do that as off-season makes it sound like I'm taking things lightly. Instead, my exact meals are calculated out and on a piece of paper on the fridge! My workout logs are written out as what needs to happen and when. Thus far today I've gotten everything done 100%! Sounds simple right... but when you're eating over 2700 calories/day and just starting out on this new diet with new foods.. cooking all that food can be very frustrating. I know after doing it a couple of days it'll become more routine! This is going to be ME! Not just playing it by ear in the offseason anymore! It's calculated out and I have a plan! I am going to make the most of this so that I am pushing and molding my physique on a daily basis!! Come show time, it's ON!!! =)
My husband and I even switched to another gym across town so we can get down to business! No talking between sets.. no interruptions... just old school, bodybuilding training that produces the bodies that he and I want!
While the day is not over, I vow to do this 100%! Taking it one day at a time! Making sure each day is done at it's fullest potential to leave NO DOUBT in my efforts for 2010!!
